The other night, a group of friends got together for a fun evening adventure. Inspired by the recent Camover announcement, we set off to wreak some havoc against the surveillance state.
We wandered through the Central Eastside, which has been transformed into a “trendy” night-life pocket for yuppies. Sanctioned graffiti (sorry, “street art”) covers the walls that used to be alive and interesting. Private security roams around, making sure nobody loiters too long in front of this design studio or that upscale brewery. Cameras are everywhere– on every building, looking down every alley and crevice, blinking and watching, silently.
We mainly went after cameras that were along busy walkways and places people like to hang out and camp. We hit them with paint balloons (which proved to be difficult and inconvenient), climbed to spray paint over the lenses, and bashed them to bits with hammers. Over the course of the night, we came across three LVT camera towers- the ones with the flashing blue lights. We destroyed all three of them, busting out the solar panels with rocks and hammers, and covering one with a smattering of paint. All along the way, we put up anti-surveilance tags like KILL CCTV and EVERY CAMERA IS A TARGET.
All in all, it was a joyous and silly time, and we’ll be sure to do it again.
