Early in the morning on Thursday, Feb 19th, we paid a visit to the Enterprise Rent-A-Car on 1924 NE Columbia Blvd.
We initially scouted the back parking lot where Enterprise stores its vehicles at night. We noted an Amarok 7000V Guard Dog alarmed electric fencing around the entire back lot perimeter. The electric fence had little to no gaps where it connected to the sides of the building or the sliding gate sections. This fence sat behind a heavy gauge chain link fence and was reinforced with several rows of barbed wire along the top. Something to prepare for in the future.
Taking inspiration from the recent vandalism at the Enterprise location on 28th and Sandy, we tagged “Death Death to DHS” and “Fuck ICE” across the front facing windows. We threw a large cinder block at the front glass door, but it failed to shatter.
Enterprise has several contracts with the Department of Homeland Security and routinely rents cars to ICE and Border Patrol agents around the country. In Minneapolis, Enterprise has rented 1000s of vehicles to feds. Here in Portland, migra watchers saw an ICE agent return a Ford Transit from the Macadam ICE facility to the Enterprise on N. Columbia Blvd in January.
We must stay on the offensive in the fight against the influx of ICE and Border Patrol agents who are kidnapping and brutalizing members of our community. ICE agents rely on rented vehicles to operate, as well as hotel rooms through companies including Hilton and Marriott. This reliance makes them vulnerable, and offers us key points of attack.
In Minneapolis, folks have been renting Enterprise vehicles en masse and then canceling them at the last minute. Hundreds have been protesting Enterprise at its headquarters in St Louis and in Philadelphia. Until Enterprise drops its contracts with DHS and stop renting to ICE, the people will continue to stand up to them.
